Responsibilities of
Students
At Lowanna, students are encouraged
to pursue excellence within a caring
environment by:
Demonstrating a consistent commitment to
improving skills and knowledge.
Accepting responsibility for actions and
developing self-discipline.
Treating each other with respect and good
manners.
Treating personal property and the property
of others with respect.
Respecting the right of others to learn
and the right of teachers to teach, with
the understanding that all students should
have access to interesting, enjoyable and
successful educational experiences.
Homework & Diaries
All students are required to have a College
diary for use in communicating between
home and school, and for noting homework
and assignment due dates.
The diary is also used to record when students
are out of the class room for any reason (eg
toilet, first aid, instrumental music).
Attendance
It is considered important that students are
fully engaged in their educational pursuits
and therefore attendance is a high prioity.
Each of the mini schools has an
administrative assistant who manages
the attendance records and informs the
coordination team of any attendance issues.
A period-by-period electronic attendance
program has been established. Coordinators
are able to provide, for parents, records of a
student’s attendance.
Parents are clearly notified through the
College newsletter of any Student Free
Days. Students are required at school on all
other occasions. When an absence does
occur the school should be notified either
during or immediately after the absence.

School SMS
Lowanna has introduced an ‘Attendance
Notification’ SMS service. This is a mobile
phone messaging service to be used to
advise parents and caregivers that a child
is absent. A message is sent home when a
student is absent. Parents who are using
this service have found it invaluable in
helping their children to become successful
students. |
Parental Involvement
in the School
The Lowanna College Parents’s Club
meets on the third Wednesday of each
month in the College Conference Room.
At these meetings the College Principal
and Assistant Principals (on rotation) are
available to answer any questions.
As part of it’s constitution, the Parents’
Club states that it will:
Provide an opportunity for all parents of
students of the College to discuss issues of
a welfare and general educational policy
nature and assist in the development of a
shared parent view.
Promote the welfare of college community
members and assist the College Council in
stimulating interest in the College.
Assist in the coordination of College
activities and liaise with other State bodies
organised to promote the interests of
Government Schools.
Convey proposals on College policy and
other College matters to Council.
Receive and raise funds for the benefit of
the College.
Provide training programs and information
sessions for parents to extend their
understanding of school issues.
Conduct meetings in accordance with
democratic procedures which will enable
the participation of all parents in the
College.
Communication
The College produces the Lowanna News letter
every second week (sent home on Fridays).
These are produced to keep students and
parents informed of all events happening
within the College. Current and back issues
of the newsletter can also be found on the
College website: www.lowanna.vic.edu.au
