Facilities
Library Resource Centre
The Library is open from 8am to 3:15pm every school day as well as at both recess and lunchtime to allow staff and students the opportunity to enjoy the resources and borrow books.
The Lowanna Library holds a wide range fiction and non-fiction books that have recently been re classified into genres to make for smoother and easier borrowing. Our loan system (Oliver) allows students and staff to have fast and easy access to resources at the library. The borrowing system can be accessed through Compass as well as a search terminal in the Library. Students can borrow books for four weeks at a time and they can be renewed for longer if required.
The Library has many other activities for students to enjoy including games, puzzles, Lego and books as well as a space to sit and relax or to chat with friends during breaks.
Book Week is a highlight during Term 3 each year, where the Library comes alive with displays, activities and students and staff have the opportunity to participate in Book Week Dress Up Day.
Career Resource Centre
Located within the Library Resource Centre, the Career Resource Centre provides comprehensive resources and services for our students to assist with their post school preparation. Some of the services offered include course and career guidance, pathways planning, job interview preparation and work experience/work placement. For senior students there is a vast array of information on University and TAFE courses, scholarships and student services. The centre is open throughout the day and most recess and lunch times.
Students are encouraged to participate in the many career related excursions and events that are organised throughout the year.
Gymnasium & Auditorium
A 580 seat auditorium supports our arts and music students as well as the broader community. A double gymnasium with sprung floor enhances the Physical Education and Sports program.
These facilities not only benefit Lowanna students but are made available for hire to the wider community.
Fitness Gym
The College has a fully equipped gym with a range of cardio equipment, machine weights and free weights. Gym programs are incorporated into the curriculum.

Outdoor Sporting Facilities
The College has a football oval, soccer pitch, basketball, and netball courts all onsite. In addition to this, Lowanna is located within close proximity to the Latrobe Leisure Centre and Newborough Recreation Reserve where facilities include a heated indoor swimming pool, and track and field facilities.
Information and Communication Technologies
Lowanna College places high priority on Information Technology and the use of Learning Technologies in all Learning Areas. The College’s enhanced network and Laptop Program supports the ways in which the school communicates, collaborates, co-operates, and creates.
Our laptop program will enable improved access to learning technologies, online learning and a collaborative learning environment, specifically through the use of Microsoft Office products. We believe that giving students access to technology in a laptop program will help engage them in the learning process in new and creative ways.
This is an exciting opportunity for our students to become increasingly skilled at using technology to access and present information, to problem solve and to work collaboratively.
Horticultural Area and Mini Farm
A mini farm incorporating a horticultural area, calf pens and chicken runs has been established within the College grounds.
College Canteen
In late 2023, the college acquired the canteen, allowing us to manage its operations internally for the first time in over 20 years. Since taking over the management of the canteen, we have welcomed a Canteen Manager (Jodie) and two Canteen Assistants (Marcelle and Ruby) to manage the daily running of the canteen – serving students, preparing food, and catering. Managing the canteen internally has allowed us to make our own decisions around menu items offered to students and staff, ensuring that healthy food options are available and that costs are kept to a minimum. We are proud to offer students healthier food options, and since taking over the canteen, we no longer have any deep-fried food (air-fried only). In addition to this, we are proud to offer healthy options such as freshly crumbed chicken wraps (locally sourced chicken), fruit cups, and focaccias. Managing the canteen internally also means catering for events throughout the year internally and for local schools as required.

Lockers
All students are provided with a locker and a combination lock. Mini Schools have a master key if needed.
Security
Video surveillance is provided around the College to assist with student’s safety and welfare.
Language Centre
Lowanna College has a state of the art Language Centre. This centre accommodates the Language department as well as the English as an Additional Language (EAL) program.
The Café
In addition to managing the canteen, the college built an impressive onsite café, allowing staff and senior students to enjoy a space to buy coffee, enjoy a homemade slice, study in a quiet place, and meet with colleagues.
The Café build commenced in the 2023/24 school holidays and was completed (and opened) in Term 1 2024.
We are excited to see what The Café can offer our college community moving forward and hope that students and staff continue to enjoy the beautiful space that has been created for them.
